Volunteer work
Volunteer work
I have served in various roles of charitable and volunteer work. My most recent adventure, as a volunteer, was joining the board of a nonprofit homeowners' association. I have been a member of the association for approximately a year now. Before joining the self-managed association, I could see the exterior of the building was in need of work. The trees were overgrown, siding had come off years ago due to a storm, and moss was growing on the back decks. I volunteer my weekends when a repair is necessary or when I notice there is a maintenance issue.
Volunteer work is extremely rewarding. Volunteering gives me an internal feeling of joy when the mission is complete. Most recently I witnessed how volunteer work had affected a gentleman at the homeowners' association. I showed him the replaced siding. As I began to explain the siding, I was unaware of his strong emotional reaction. He thanked me profusely; I noticed he had tears in his eyes. I had not experienced such a warm reaction from simply lending a helping hand.

Charitable events are meaningful and rewarding. If you have not yet donated time to a great cause you most certainly should give it a try. This particular event was hosted by Another Way in Temecula, California. We drove in golf carts to provide beverages to the members of the golf club who donated to the charity golf tournament. I must admit, this was my first experience driving a golf cart. I highly recommend it.
The funds raised went to a nonprofit organization for children and adults with disabilities. Volunteering for a great charitable cause makes you feel fulfilled. It often provides exposure to diverse environments and people, fostering adaptability and empathy. Volunteer work demonstrates a commitment to community, a willingness to take on responsibilities, and the ability to manage time effectively. If nothing else, do it for the cause and to meet new friends who share the same passion for the charity as you!
